Niagara Falls

It’s known as the honeymoon capital of the World, a tourist mecca that attracts daredevils in barrels and on tightropes. The Falls at Niagara were formed about 12,000 years ago when melting glaciers formed massive fresh-water lakes, one of which (Lake Erie) ran downhill toward another  (Lake Ontario).  The word Niagara comes from the word “onguiaahra” which means “a thundering noise”.

The Falls have made an appearance in several films, including:

  • Niagara (1953) Marilyn Monroe
  • Canadian Bacon (1995) John Candy
  • The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996) Geena Davis, Samuel L. Jackson
  • Superman II (1980) Christopher Reeve
  • Bruce Almighty (2003) Jim Carrey
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007) Johnny Depp
  • Camille (2008) Sienna Miller, James Franco
